LIFE SKILLS
WHY LIFE SKILLS?
Life skills training provides teens with important tools for development, such as independent thinking, how to socialize and form healthy relationships, and how to take action in situations where adults may not be around to help or intervene (dealing with a bully or confronting peer pressure, for example.) Unlike motor skills and basic intelligence, executive function and decision-making skills are learned.
Learning life skills builds self-confidence and self-efficacy (a belief in their own capacity to succeed) by providing opportunities to learn and practice these skills in real-life settings.
Our program uses the Botvin LifeSkills curriculum which is a research validated, highly interactive, skills-based curriculum designed to promote positive health and personal development.
LST helps participants achieve competency in the following skills that not only are key to success but have also been found to reduce and prevent substance use and violence.
